Aspire (Jordan K. Barker)

Aspire is a Pop Punk band from Toronto, Ontario. After releasing only 2 EP's they are already making waves in the alternative music scene, and have no plans of slowing down.
Zach - "What’s your name & what do you do?"
Aspire - "My name’s Jordan, I’m the singer, songwriter and producer of Aspire."
Zach - "What age did you realize you wanted to get into music?"
Aspire - "I believe it was when I was about 11 years old in back in London, UK. Living with my Great Aunt, she had a bunch of records laying around that I took up and began listening to. Lauren Hill, The Fugees, I think Boys 2 Men was in the mix too. But at that point it started to tip my mindset from wanting to be a pilot, for the love of travel, to growing my interest in music for the enjoyment of how it moved me emotionally. However it wasn’t until I was 15 that I actually began writing my own music."
Zach - "Which musicians do you think helped influence your sound to what it is today?"
Aspire - "Vocally, Dallas Green was a huge inspiration to me even trying to sing, and still to today there’s bits of that I carry. Other than that, can’t really say I draw from any specific artist, since a lot of what I listen to lands on the opposite side of the genre spectrum."
Zach - "Your band mixes the genres of Hip-Hop & Pop Punk, Where did that idea come from?"
Aspire - "There’s never been a real answer to that. I find when I write, I do it with an open and experimental mindset, to me that’s how music should be written. I did use to just rap before doing the band thing, and WSGF was really just written for kicks, didn’t think anyone would take that song seriously."
Zach - "Was there a specific moment you realized that music was your passion?"
Aspire - "A reoccurring moment actually. Every time I write a new song, or better yet, before the songs even done, I’m more excited than anything in the world over a lyric, or a riff. It literally cancels out any bad vibes in me immediately and I feel that’s when I realize my passion for music is real."
Zach - "Do you have any passions/hobbies apart from music? And if so what are they?"
Aspire - "Travelling, hands down, I love seeing new places. I’m an introvert though, so meeting new people can sometimes be a challenge, even on tour. Oh, and biking, gotta love biking."
Zach - "Were your family & friends supportive of you when you decided you wanted to become a musician?"
Aspire - "I’ve gained a pretty amazing support circle from my friends, and that’s a lot of what’s kept things going for me. It’s always warming to know you have people who support you, whether or not it’s family."
Zach - "Is there any specific genre of music you just can’t stand what so ever?"
Aspire - "As much as I wanna say country music, I don’t hate it as much as it’s on the bottom of my “go to” list."
Zach - "How does it feel to be at a point where articles are written about your band, by popular outlets like Alternative Press?"
Aspire - "It’s a bit surreal to be honest, I never saw my music getting a review by AP, nor was it a goal, but now that it has become a reality I’m more than grateful to know how much a reach this music’s made."
Zach - "You have played on tours before. Is there a specific festival/tour you would love to be a part of?"
Aspire - "I’d love to do an entire run of Warped Tour at least once. I’ve had a run with some other bands on it a few years back and it was amazing, I feel like every band should have a shot at Warped at least once in their career. Apart from that though, I’d love to have a run with 'PVRIS' and or 'Issues'."
Zach - "Is there anything on the horizon that fans can look forward to from ‘Aspire’?"
Aspire - "I can’t quite spill anything yet, but of course saying that only means keep an eye out for some new jams and stuff."
Zach - "Thanks a lot for taking time out to do this."
Jordan - "Not a problem, Zach."
